What we collect

When you create a CampAlert account or sign in with Google, we collect your email address and display name. When you create a campsite availability scan, we store your scan preferences (campground, dates, guest count, site type).

How we use your data

We use your email address to send campsite availability alerts when a cancellation is detected at a campground you are monitoring. We use your scan preferences to match campsite cancellations against your search criteria. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Data sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties except as required to operate the service:

  • Postmark — used to deliver email alerts to your inbox
  • Render — our hosting provider, where your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database
  • Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email with us per their OAuth flow
  • PostHog — product analytics processor that receives pageviews and product events from your signed-in session to help us improve the service. Data is stored in the EU region and is not used for advertising.

Data retention

Your account and scan data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time by contacting us. Expired and deleted scans are removed from our active systems within 30 days.

Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text. All connections to CampAlert are encrypted via HTTPS. We use industry-standard practices to protect your data.

Contact

If you have questions about your data or want to request deletion, email us at [email protected].

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be notified via email. Continued use of CampAlert after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
