Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about CampAlert, from how it works to what it costs.

How it works

What is CampAlert?

CampAlert monitors Australian campsite booking systems for cancellations. When someone cancels a reservation at a campground you're watching, we send you an alert so you can book the spot before anyone else.

How does the monitoring work?

Once you create a scan, our system checks the booking page for your chosen campground every 5 minutes, around the clock. If a spot opens up that matches your dates and preferences, we notify you by email.

Does CampAlert book the campsite for me?

No. We only monitor for cancellations and notify you when a spot becomes available. You still book through the park's own website. We make sure you know the moment something opens up — the booking part is up to you.

How do I set up a scan?

Visit the homepage and search for the campground you want. Select your preferred dates and number of guests. If you already have an account, the scan starts immediately. If not, you'll create one first.

Campsite availability

Which parks do you cover?

We currently monitor Parks Victoria and Queensland National Parks. More Australian states and territories are being added — we'll announce new coverage as it becomes available.

How often do you scan for cancellations?

Every 5 minutes, for all plans. Unlike some services that throttle cheaper tiers, every CampAlert scan runs at the same frequency. There's no advantage to upgrading for speed — the difference between plans is only how many scans you can run at once.

What if nothing comes available?

Cancellations are unpredictable. Some campsites see cancellations daily, others rarely. The longer your scan runs and the more flexible your dates, the better your chances. We can't guarantee a result — we can only guarantee we're watching.

Can I filter by site type (powered/unpowered)?

Not yet. Currently, CampAlert monitors all available sites at a campground regardless of type. If a powered, unpowered, or hiker hut site opens up, you'll be notified. We're working on site type filtering and it will be available in a future update.

How do I improve my odds of getting a campsite?

Be flexible with your dates — even one extra day increases your chances. Shorter stays (1-2 nights) come up more often than week-long blocks. Mid-week arrivals are less competitive than weekends. And start scanning early — cancellations tend to increase as the date approaches.

Alerts and notifications

What do alerts contain?

Each alert includes the campground name, the available dates, the site number (if applicable), and a direct link to the booking page so you can act quickly.

Do I get multiple alerts?

Yes. Your scan keeps running until your arrival date or until you pause it. If multiple spots open up at different times, you'll receive an alert for each one.

I got an alert but the spot was already taken. What happened?

Someone else booked it first. At popular parks like Wilsons Promontory or the Grampians, cancelled spots can be rebooked within minutes. The faster you act on an alert, the better your chances.

Can I get alerts by SMS?

SMS alerts are included in all plans. We're currently finalising our SMS integration for Australian mobile numbers. In the meantime, all alerts are delivered by email.

Account and billing

How much does CampAlert cost?

We offer pay-per-use scans at $12 AUD (one-time, one scan) and monthly memberships starting at $15 AUD/month (3 concurrent scans). All plans include the same 5-minute scan frequency, email alerts, and SMS alerts.

What's the difference between PAYG and a membership?

A pay-per-use scan is a one-time purchase that monitors one campground until your arrival date. A membership lets you run multiple scans at once, edit them freely, and is better value if you camp regularly or want to monitor several parks.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes, cancel any time from your dashboard. Your plan will continue until the end of your paid period. There are no cancellation fees.

Do you offer refunds?

We don't offer refunds for scans that don't produce alerts. When you sign up, you're paying us to monitor a campground on your behalf. We can't control whether someone cancels their reservation.

Is my payment information secure?

We use Stripe for all payment processing. Your card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch our servers. Stripe is PCI Level 1 certified — the highest level of security in the payments industry.
